Yes! Your diet can affect your hearing….

Many of our patients would like to know what they can do to improve their hearing and/or reduce the deterioration of their hearing. There likely are changes you can make to reduce the deterioration of hearing. Consider some of the following research findings regarding an association between nutrition and hearing:

  • Increase incidence of hearing loss among people who lack single micro nutrients, including Vitamins A, B, C, D and E along with zinc, magnesium, selenium, iron and iodine

  • Individuals with higher carbohydrate, fat and cholesterol intake corresponded to poorer hearing levels

  • Individuals with lower protein intake corresponded to poorer hearing levels

  • Higher consumption of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) corresponded to better hearing

  • Obesity and malnutrition were reported as a risk factor for hearing loss
